The Hearing & Ear conference was held in JSC "Medicine" (the clinic of Academician Roytberg)
On November 1, 2018, the Hearing & Ear conference was held at Medicina JSC (Academician Roitberg's clinic). The conference participants - parents whose children suffer from congenital anomalies of the ear canal - got acquainted with one of the most advanced methods of hearing restoration and auricle reconstruction.
Dr. Ashesh Bhumkar, a world-renowned ENT surgeon, spoke about the technology of hearing-improving surgery to eliminate atresia of the ear canal with simultaneous plastic auricle from the costal cartilage.
“Each patient's case is unique and, of course, the most important thing is hearing restoration. I have been doing just such operations for a long time, because I believe that the use of my own cartilage material gives the best results and survival rate. No synthetic material is able to convey real sensations, temperature sensitivity and will not grow and age with the body. In addition, implants are produced only in standard shapes, which can cause disharmony in appearance, in contrast to the auricles modeled individually from the patient's own cartilage, "commented Dr. Ashesh Bhumkar.
The conference aroused the greatest interest among parents of children with atresia from different regions of Russia and Belarus. After all, this technology is little known in the post-Soviet space. The method allows you to restore the path along which sounds reach the middle and inner ear, to reconstruct the bones of the middle ear if they are absent or impossible to perform their function correctly, and to carry out plastic surgery of the outer ear within the framework of one surgical intervention.
Grigory Efimovich Roitberg, President of Medicina JSC, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, spoke about the purpose of this conference: “Our clinic has often become a pioneer in the use of new technologies in various medical fields.
