Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the spine

Magnetic resonance imaging allows you to study the features of the vertebrae, spinal cord and nearby tissues (muscles, vessels, ligaments).

MRI of the spine in modern medicine is used to a greater extent for the study of soft tissues. Their visualization with this method of research occurs more clearly and distinctly. To diagnose specific lesions of bone structures, it is not customary to rely only on MRI. X-ray diagnostics is more informative in the study of bone structures.

Magnetic resonance imaging has high resolution and makes it easy to detect the most insignificant foci of inflammation, areas of altered tissue, the consequences of injuries and injuries, degenerative and destructive changes in the vertebrae, compression fractures and hidden pathological processes.

MRI equipment

In our clinic, a Siemens Magnetom Skyra - 3 Tesla (64 slices, 48 channels) is used for magnetic resonance imaging. It allows you to examine in detail the tissues of different parts of the spine, diagnose and clarify the condition of the structures.

  • Up to 250 kg
  • It is possible for children and adults
  • to have an MRI of the spine under anesthesia
  • you can do it with or without contrast

Its main differences from similar devices of previous generations are as follows:

    Maximum clear image

    The intensity of the magnetic field allows you to explore the deepest layers of tissues and organs without loss of accuracy and create a clear, informative image.

    High-precision detailing

    64-slice technology is revolutionary today, as it provides high-precision image detail and allows you to register even the smallest signs of pathology, which makes it possible to diagnose oncological diseases at the earliest stages!

    Suitable for the youngest patients

    The power of our device allows you to get a high-quality image in a shorter time, which facilitates the MRI procedure for children.

    No restrictions

    Our device is equipped with a table with a high load capacity, thanks to which it is possible to perform an MRI procedure and examine the spine in patients with a large weight (up to 250 kg).

    Tim 4G Technology

    This is a unique development of SIEMENS, which has changed the MRI. Thanks to her, there was no need to change the patient's posture when examining several areas of the body, and high-precision visualization of processes in real time became possible.

The above features make it possible to create as accurately as possible a computer model of brain tissues that displays structural disorders and allows you to make a correct diagnosis based on objective data. This is the most modern equipment for performing brain MRI in Moscow. If you need an extremely accurate and objective result, it will be provided by an examination in our clinic.

Indications for MRI of the spine

  • osteochondrosis of the spine;
  • back pain, lumbago, numbness of the limbs;
  • loss of sensitivity of fingers and toes;
  • intervertebral hernias;
  • neoplasms in the spinal cord;
  • diagnosis of metastases;
  • preoperative preparation;
  • monitoring of the state of the spine after surgery;
  • anomalies of vertebral development.

Preparation for MRI

It is not necessary to prepare specifically for an MRI of the spine and spinal cord, however, on the eve of the procedure, it is necessary to consult a doctor about possible contraindications to the study.

MRI of the spine
It is advisable to refrain from eating and drinking 1-2 hours before the visit to the clinic.
MRI of the spine
Before the procedure itself, it is necessary to remove all metal objects from the body, including clothes and underwear with elements of any metal.

Electronic gadgets (phone, tablet, smart watch, etc.) should also be left in the dressing room.

When going for diagnostics, be sure to take with you:

  • Referral indicating the diagnosis and purpose of the study;
  • The results of previous radiation studies (computed tomography, MRI, radiography, ultrasound);
  • Medical documentation (expert opinions, extracts from the medical history or outpatient card, etc.).

Contraindications to MRI of the spine

When using contrast agents, MRI is contraindicated for:

  • pregnant and lactating women;
  • patients with renal insufficiency and hypersensitivity to contrast.

The technique is not carried out in the presence of a pacemaker and other metal objects in the body. People with claustrophobia may undergo an MRI in a state of medical sleep or with an open circuit. MRI is also not indicated for patients with mental disorders.

Doctors

MRI in our clinic is performed by radiologists with considerable experience, numbering dozens of years of diagnostic practice. These are competent specialists with an excellent reputation, members of the European Association of Radiologists.
