Endoprosthetics Center
Bring back the joy of movement and the quality of life
If you are experiencing joint problems, consider endoprosthetics as a solution. JSC "Medicine" clinic of Academician Roitberg offers joint replacement using artificial implants, known as endoprostheses. These prostheses are designed to replace a specific body part or organ and are implanted inside the human body. Endoprostheses are ideal for joint replacement operations, as they precisely repeat the anatomy and provide a full range of motion.
Description of endoprosthetics (joint replacement)
Our doctors are highly qualified specialists. They have modern equipment at their disposal that allows them to effectively solve complex tasks. Due to this, difficulties in the process of endoprosthetics, as a rule, do not arise. However, in each case, the specialist is still preparing for the intervention, drawing up his plan. At the preparation stage, the optimal method of anesthesia is selected together with the patient.
For joint surgery, an incision is made, the length of which is up to 20 cm. The bones are modeled to fit the shape of a specific endoprosthesis, after which its cup is installed and fixed. At the final stage, the parts of the prosthesis are compared and strengthened by stitching the dissected tissues. The entire replacement process lasts about 1-2 hours. A longer operation occurs with ankylosis and gluing of the joint capsule with muscles or ligaments.
Indications for surgery
The need for endoprosthetics is determined by specialists after a thorough examination of the patient. Many people suffer from painful sensations in the joints, as well as from their dysfunctionality. But often the problem is solved by intra-articular injections, taking medications and physiotherapy.
On the other hand, there may be a situation where all of the above is no longer valid. Joint replacement is required if the joint is so destroyed that it cannot perform its functions and becomes a source of severe pain. In such cases, joint replacement becomes the only way out of the situation.
The main diseases in which it is impossible to do without endoprosthetics are:
- deforming osteoarthritis;
- injuries or circulatory disorders that led to the destruction of the femoral head;
- ankylosis of the hip joints in Bechterew's disease;
- fracture or false joint of the femoral neck in patients over 70 years of age;
- congenital pathologies (hip dislocation, dysplasia);
- coxarthrosis of the 3rd degree;
- tumor processes inside the joint;
- necrosis of the articular head;
- rheumatoid arthritis.
But the presence of these diseases in itself is not a strict indication for surgery. Our specialists are guided by the patient's feelings. If he does not suffer from pain or agrees that it is impossible to run with his disease, then joint replacement is not required.
The effectiveness of conservative methods can also be a reason to refuse intervention, even if they help for 3-6 months. If the patient is experiencing severe discomfort, has problems with self-care or wants to lead a more active lifestyle, surgery will still be needed.
Preparation for the procedure
Proper preparation for endoprosthesis surgery is a guarantee that the likelihood of complications after surgery will significantly decrease, and rehabilitation will be simpler. Our specialists will provide individual recommendations that must be followed. It is also advisable a few months before the operation:
lead a healthy lifestyle to improve immunity and get rid of excess weight;
undergo preoperative physical rehabilitation to improve blood circulation and strengthen muscles and ligaments;
to familiarize yourself with the general principles of postoperative rehabilitation in advance;
in the presence of chronic diseases, visit specialized specialists.
A week before joint replacement surgery, you need to stop drinking alcohol. 4-5 days before surgery, you should stop taking blood thinning medications.
Difficulties in the process of endoprosthetics, as a rule, do not arise. However, in each case, the specialist is still preparing for the intervention, drawing up his plan. At the preparation stage, the optimal method of anesthesia is selected together with the patient.
Contraindications
In some cases, joint replacement cannot provide the desired result or is associated with an increased risk of complications that threaten the life and health of the patient. Such conditions are called absolute contraindications. These are:
- chronic diseases of the cardiovascular system in the decompensation stage;
- inflammation in the joint area (if it was possible to stop them, surgery is possible after 3 months);
- sepsis suffered;
- non-sanitized foci of chronic infection;
- the presence of cross-allergy to medical components;
- paresis or paralysis of the limb on which surgical intervention is required.
There may be situations when a person cannot move independently, and even a joint replacement will not help eliminate the cause of this condition. In such cases, it is irrational to carry out an intervention. These can be:
- oncological diseases;
- hormonal osteopathy;
- obesity of 2-3 degrees;
- chronic diseases in the decompensation stage.
The operation is also not performed in cases such as:
- problems with the cardiovascular system that do not allow performing surgery under anesthesia;
- tuberculosis;
- bone osteoporosis;
- osteomyelitis;
- decompensated diabetes mellitus;
- mental disorders;
- disorders of the central and peripheral nervous system.
