Methods of treating breast diseases
Depending on the diagnosis, surgical or reconstructive treatment is possible. A significant proportion of the total number of surgical operations is mastectomy – removal of the breast with a subcutaneous fat layer, regional lymphatic vessels and nodes, sometimes with small and large pectoral muscles. The procedure is recommended for patients diagnosed with breast cancer, breast sarcoma, advanced cases of fibrocystic mastopathy, purulent mastitis of phlegmonous and gangrenous forms. Removal of the gland is carried out by one of the following methods:
- Sectoral resection is an organ–preserving operation that includes excision of a fragment of the breast in which a tumor or suppuration is localized (up to 1/6 of the breast with preservation and minimal interference with the structure of healthy tissue)<
- Radical breast resection – removal of a significant affected gland to prevent further spread of the tumor to neighboring organs and tissues of the chest<
- Mastectomy with removal of small and large pectoral muscles, axillary and subclavian tissue<
- Oncoplastic resections with simultaneous reconstruction of a partially removed gland<
- Mastectomy with simultaneous endoprosthesis is a procedure involving the installation of an implant immediately after the removal of a tumor<
- Delayed endoprosthesis mastectomy – implant placement several months after surgery for better tissue healing<
